Who we are

Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service is the largest non-metropolitan fire and rescue service in England. We provide prevention, protection and response services across the counties of Devon and Somerset (including Torbay and Plymouth).

We have 83 fire stations and over 1,800 committed and dedicated staff who work to protect the 1.7 million people who live in our counties. This alongside the estimated extra 400,000 people who visit this wonderful part of the country every year.

Keeping you safe

We provide community safety advice, education, and intervention services to keep you safe. We can visit you in your home, at a convenient time, to see what we can do together to make you safer. Our fire protection officers keep you safe in the buildings you visit and work in by making sure that the responsible person in that building is following the fire safety legislation.

Saving lives and property

You can be sure that if you need us, we will rescue you. Whether it's from a burning building, from fast-flowing water, from height or from a road traffic collision, we will respond. We will aim to save your property from the damage of flood or fire and provide specialist animal rescues to keep both you and the animal safe. We will respond to medical trauma on behalf of the South West Ambulance Services Trust through our network of co-responders..

All this costs just 24 pence a day (based on a Council Tax Band D property).

Now you know we do so much more than putting out fires.
