Incident - Barn Fire

Fire appliances from Street and Glastonbury along with the Water Carrier from Bridgwater were mobilised to a report of a fire at the above location.

On arrival at the incident fire crews requested a further appliance which was mobilised from Somerton. Crews confirmed one agricultural building well alight.  The barn, approximately 6m x 10m contains approximately 30 tonnes of hay and an HGV vehicle, the contents are well alight.  Crews at work with a compressed air foam jet to prevent further fire spread.  

04:20 - Fire crews allowing the contents of the barn to burn out and protect adjacent buildings and slurry tank from further involvement in fire.  Barn also containing 50 tonnes of woodchip and 6 - 8 tonnes of used tyres - not currently involved in fire.  Crews are protecting the tyres with 1 attack jet and 2 further attack jets in use to protect the other buildings.   

06:10 - Steady progress being made by owner who is moving unaffected tyres with telehandler.  Crews still at work with 3 attack jets.  Two pump relief crew mobilised from Yeovil and Castle Carey.   

14:30 - Final Details: A further Water Carrier from Yeovil attended this incident to provide additional water for the crews, as well as a relief crew from Bridgwater.

Crews continued to damp down the area and remove contents of the barn. Fire crews, together with the property owner, used a total of 3 attack jets, 1 telehandler, 3 drag forks and a thermal image camera.
