Incident - Property Fire - Final update

Fire Control received a call from a passer-by who reported smoke coming from a chimney of a domestic property. One Fire Engine from Crownhill was sent. On arrival crews confirmed that there was smoke issuing from the roof void and asked for a further 2 Fire Engines to attend, which were a 2nd from Crownhill and one from Greenbank.

Crews then quickly asked for further assistance as there were now smoke and flames issuing from the roof. A further Fire Engine from Greenbank, one from Camels Head and an Aerial Platform Ladder from Crownhill were sent.

Crews have confirmed that this is a fire in the roof space of a terrace property and affecting 3 properties. Crews are using Breathing Apparatus and Hose Reel Jets to extinguished the fire. Further appliances from Ivybridge, Yelverton and Plympton, as well as a Command Support Vehicle from Totnes, a Welfare Unit from Ivybridge and an Incident Support Unit from Bovey Tracey.

Update from 1130 hrs

This incident is now scaling down to 5 Fire Engines, crews are awaiting the arrival of a Structural Engineer from the Council to inspect the stability of the properties.

Final update 1400

All crews have now left the scene. This was a fire confirmed in the roof space and first floor of a terraced property. Crews used 8 Breathing Apparatus, 3 main jets and 2 hose reel jets to extinguish the fire. There was 100 per cent damage by fire to the roof and first floor, with the remainder of the building damaged by heat and smoke. The cause of the fire is believed to be accidental.
