Incident - Commercial property fire

The fire service have received a number of calls to a commercial building which was well alight at the above location. 8 fire engines along with an aerial ladder platform, a water carrier, an environmental protection unit, incident support unit, welfare unit and a command support vehicle are currently on scene tackling the fire.

Crews are currently using 3 main jets and 2 breathing apparatus and attempting to stop the fire spreading to neighbouring properties.

Update at 07:58 - This incident has now been sectorised. In sector one 1 main jet and the aerial ladder platform with a jet are in use, in sector 3 1 main jet is in use. This is a seven terrace industrial unit with two of these units fully involved in fire. Crews are shortly to commence internal fire fighting as the appropriate media is now in place.

Update at 08:31 -  A further two fire appliances were requested for additional breathing apparatus personnel. These crews are now on scene

Update at 09:15 - In sector 1 there are currently 4 x Breathing Apparatus in use, 1 x Attack Jet and 1 x Covering Jet, two crews are currently fire fighting on first floor to affect fire spread using an Aerial Ladder Platform and are currently awaiting the arrival of a chainsaw to remove clad. In Sector 3, 2 x Covering Jets -  1 x 45mm hose and 1 x 70mm hose - are in use. Significant internal collapse identified. Crews are carrying out identification of damage inside the building. Day crews are now making their way to the incident to relieve night crews. 

Update at 10:12 - Crews at work in sector 1, Aerial Ladder Platform now redeployed, currently making access through roof to access hotspots. 2 x Breathing Apparatus and 1 x Hose Reel Jet in use. Safety Observers have been deployed for signs of possible collapse. Inspection of property now involving building inspector and watch manager. Crews awaiting arrival of chainsaw from USAR to carry out removal of cladding. 

Update at 10:56 - Good progress being made, incident has now been scaled back to four fire engines and one aerial ladder platform. 

Update at 13:28 -  This incident has been scaled back to 2 fire appliances  and an aerial ladder platform. Relief crews have also been organised for 14:30 to relieve appliances from the scene.

Update at 14:46 - A stop message was received from the fire ground to inform control that no further resources would be needed and to give overall details of the incident. 3 Commercial units were involved in fire with one of these units being 100% destroyed by fire and smoke. 6 breathing apparatus were used, 4 main jets, 2 covering jets, 1 safety jet, 2 thermal imaging cameras and a metal chainsaw were also used. Crews continue to dampen down hotspots and a fire investigation officer is attending the incident in order determine if this was accidental or deliberate.

Update at 18:00 - Relief crews from Wellington have been mobilised to this incident to continue with damping down hotspots.
