Incident - Road Traffic Collision involving Horse Lorry

Fire Control mobilised 3 Fire Engines and a Heavy Rescue Vehicle to reports of a road traffic collision involving one car and a horse lorry on the A39 West Roundswell to Bideford.

On arrival crews found one HGV Horsebox on its side with one car trapped underneath. One casualty from the car was taken to hospital by land ambulance prior to arrival of the Fire Service with an additional casualty from the car was also being conveyed to hospital with minor injuries.

Two horses are still within the horsebox being attended to by Vets and Specialist Rescue Teams from Barnstaple and Heavy Rescue equipment also in use. The horsebox has been stabilised. Crews are currently at work attempting to release the horses.....

14:11 Two horses were released by Fire Crews using Specialist Animal Rescue equipment and transported from the scene in alternative transport under supervision of Vets.
