Date: 06/12/2018
Time: 15:53
Location: A303 Westbound at Leigh Common nr Wincanton
Area: Somerset

3 fire appliances from Wincanton, Mere and Gillingham were mobilised following calls to a vehicle on fire following an RTC, where it was reported to have hit the central reservation and come to rest in one of the live carriageways.

On arrival crews confirmed this to be a 2 vehicle RTC, where all persons were free and clear, but that one of the cars was well alight. They set to work extinguishing the fire using 3 breathing apparatus and 2 hose reel jets, before making the vehicles and scene safe. One female casualty was left in the care of the Ambulance Service being checked over and duty of care for the incident was left with Police and the Highways Agency. Heavy traffic will be experienced as a result of the RTC and until recovery of the vehicles has been made. Please check travel bulletins and information sites for the latest travel and road updates. These are the full and final details.
