Fire control received several 999 calls reporting a large lorry on fire on the M5 northbound at Exeter.

The lorry is well alight and we currently have four fire engines, water carrier and an environmental protection unit in attendance. The Police are also in attendance.

Crews are currently extinguishing the fire with:

  • Breathing apparatus
  • Hose reel jets
  • Foam jets

Crews were able to successfully extinguish the fire using 8 breathing apparatus, 5 jets and environmental protection packs.

The vehicle is 95% damaged by fire, the cause of the fire is believed to be accidental.
