Press Release - Nepal Disaster Training

A  successful two week training course has been completed by Urban Search and Rescue (USAR) techniques for disaster relief in Nepal. This was attended by the Nepali Army Disaster relief battalions, British Gurkhas and Nepali Fire Fighters.

Five members from Devon & Somerset Fire & Rescue Services, Station 60 alongside four International Search and Rescue (ISAR) instructors from Fire Scotland trained the delegates in various USAR disciplines relevant to the types of disasters which all too regularly occur in Nepal. The course was very well received and there are already plans being make to put on another course next year 

During the 1st week team members were detached for a day to service some generators and Light Portable Pumps at Kathmandu fire station. They managed to get two un-serviceable machines back up-and-running.

During the 2nd week, three of the team visited the Orphanage in Sindupulchowk over two days and purchased a jeep-load of supplies including food and musical instruments with the donated funds, the visit was well received and the children were fantastic company.
