Incident - Fire Involving Outbuilding

Date: 06/02/2019
Time: 04:45
Location: Garlandhayes nr Clayhidon
Area: Somerset
County: Somerset

3 fire appliances from Wellington and Taunton, together with a water carrier from Bridgwater, were mobilised following a call from the owners of a stables, saying that their tack room was on fire. At the time of call it was confirmed that no livestock was involved and had been moved to a place of safety.

Shortly after the first crew from Wellington arrived they confirmed that a stable building, used as a tack room, was well alight and set to work firefighting with 1 hose reel jet, which was later increased to 2 and 2 breathing apparatus wearers. The fire was quickly under control and prevented from spreading to other attached buildings, although a neighbouring barn was effected by some heat transfer but this was damped down by crews and then both buildings monitored with a thermal imaging camera as a precaution.

This incident is now complete and was brought under control at 06:38hrs. Crews made steady progress and once satisfied that the fire, which started accidentally, was extinguished with no hotspots, they made the area safe. The tack room was destroyed by fire but there were no casualties, livestock involved or further fire spread. Duty of care has been left with the owners and these are the full and final details.
